History

Community Medical and Dental Care opened its first site in Monsey in 1993. Named the Monsey Medical and Dental Center, the center provided primary medical care in a centrally located facility. In 2002, the organization acquired the status of being a Federally Qualified Health Center, a distinction granted to select medical facilities across the nation.

 In 2005, the Ben Gilman Spring Valley Medical Center was opened, and provided the same medical services as the Monsey Medical and Dental Center opened. In the years since 1993, the list of medical services provided at our centers has grown exponentially, and continues to grow to this day. Additional services are provided to the community on the basis of their needs and demands.

Community Medical and Dental Care also operates a mobile dental service, Dental Care on Wheels, which began offering oral health care in 2006. The Mobile Unit provides services at senior and group homes, educational institutions, and offices.

The Monsey and Spring Valley locations are both near the center of Rockland County. The Monsey area is home to one of the nation's largest Jewish populations, and there are a number of diverse  Jewish communities in the region as well.

The Spring Valley center is on the border of Spring Valley, but is in walking distance to several diverse neighborhoods in the area. Spring Valley is home to a growing Hispanic population, and also has a large African-American and Haitian-American community.

The diversity of the areas served is representative of the diversity of the actual patients that are served at both centers, and is a source of pride for the organization.
