An OB/GYN, or Obstetrician-Gynecologist, is a doctor who specializes in female reproductive health, pregnancy and childbirth. However, the practice of OB/GYN isn’t limited to only these topics. OB/GYNs can also act a woman’s primary health provider, or PCP; screen for diseases such as breast and female reproductive cancers, diabetes and high blood pressure (also known as hypertension); and can help women who have trouble getting pregnant as well as those who are considered at high risk for health problems during and after pregnancy. OB/GYNs can also help women with urinary tract disorders. Some OB/GYNs work with children and adolescents, while others focus on adults and/or senior women.
